How Old is Too Old for Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is not a procedure that is limited to young women. The benefits of breast augmentation surgery, specifically larger, more shapely breasts, appeal to women that represent a wide range of ages spanning from eighteen-years-old to fifty-years-old, and beyond. Most women see the word “augmentation” and think “enlargement.” However, we find that many women in their 50s and 60s do not want larger breasts; instead they desire firmer, perkier, more shapely breasts. Those goals can be accomplished with either breast augmentation or augmentation combined with a breast lift (called a mastopexy – or “pexy”).

The age of the woman is not nearly as important as her level of health when determining candidacy for breast augmentation. Our plastic surgeon, Mark Pinsky, MD, advises that patients who are considering breast augmentation possess the following:

  • Good physical wellness
  • Capability to heal properly and fully
  • Appropriate skin quality and/or muscle tissue to support breast implants

During a consultation, Dr. Pinsky will evaluate your health, perform a physical examination, and discuss your concerns and goals. If he determines that you are healthy enough for surgery and meet the physical requirements, he will then formulate a customized surgical plan for achieving your desired outcome.
Women of all ages are welcome to inquire about breast augmentation and augmentation with a lift at Pinsky Plastic Surgery. If you are interested in finding out if breast enlargement surgery is right for you, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Pinsky today.
