About Dr. Chavanon
Vincent Chavanon, MD is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with special training in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is committed to providing skilled, tailored care to each of his patients and is rewarded by the powerful impact of plastic surgery and the life-changing results of reconstruction. Plastic surgeons operate from head to toe on patients of all ages and therefore need to be masters of anatomy and have an aesthetic eye for the whole body. Accordingly, Dr. Chavanon has authored book chapters and journal publications on subjects ranging from facial reconstruction to hand surgery to lower extremity reconstruction.
Education and Training Institutions
Raised in Colorado Springs at the foot of the snow-capped Rocky Mountains, Dr. Chavanon developed a driving work ethic and commitment to great service while working in his parent’s top-rated restaurant. His interest in medicine started from high school anatomy and volunteering in the local ER. Dr. Chavanon continued his education in Massachusetts at Tufts University, graduating magna cum laude in both Biology and Community Health. After college, Dr. Chavanon completed medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. It was there he fell in love with plastic surgery, seeing children’s results after cleft lip surgery and transformative breast reconstruction for breast cancer survivors.
The next chapter brought Dr. Chavanon to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where he completed a six-year plastic surgery residency program. While nestled between the stylish Upper East Side and Spanish Harlem neighborhoods, Dr. Chavanon learned from Manhattan’s top aesthetic surgeons and also had the opportunity to assist with valuable reconstructive surgery for the city’s less fortunate patients. Even the wife of his supervising surgeon became his patient:
“…the degree of trust and confidence I have in Dr. Chavanon’s character and ability…I picked him to perform surgery on my wife. As with many other cases that I watched him perform, this one resulted in an excellent outcome as well.”
After residency, Dr. Chavanon elected to pursue an additional year of sub-specialty training in surgery of the hand. This provides additional mastery in hand trauma (fractures, tendon injuries, nerve lacerations, open wounds), chronic hand conditions (carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinopathies, and arthritis of the wrist and hands), as well as surgical principles of microsurgery and complex nerve repair and reconstruction. Restoring hand function and removing pain allows patients to restart work and get back to their hobbies, which is a truly rewarding aspect of the specialty.
Dr Chavanon is a road cyclist, racing in high school and college while leading group rides for USA Cycling in France in the summers. You will also see him running down Ocean Boulevard training for his next marathon. In all he has run four marathons, including qualifying for and running the 2013 Boston Marathon—the year of the bombing. He is also a private pilot and loves being out on the water fishing or scuba diving. Dr. Chavanon is family oriented and visits his parents on their 1000-acre ranch in Colorado for hiking, horseback riding, and fresh air. Growing up, he spent his summers living with his grandparents in the South of France and is fluent in French! He lives in West Palm Beach with his partner Jeanne and their rescue dog, Zoe.
